Nathan J. Cox is both a 2-D and a 3-D artist, a maker of mixed-media drawings, copper and mixed-media sculpture, fine pottery, and sculptural ceramic vessels. His work has been featured in over 80 solo, group, juried or invitational regional and national exhibitions, where it has won numerous awards, and has also been published in Ceramics Monthly Magazine, the foremost periodical publication on ceramic art in the U.S.
Besides being a committed artist, Cox is also a dedicated teacher and higher education arts administrator. He is a Professor of Art in the South Carolina School of the Arts at Anderson University, in Anderson SC, where he teaches Foundations and Ceramics. Cox also serves as Foundations Art Program Coordinator for the Department of Art Design, and as Associate Dean for the School of the Arts.
Nathan was born and raised in Virginia, a small town several hours south of Chicago. He received a BFA from Millikin University in Decatur Illinois, and he earned his MFA from Bradley University, in Peoria Illinois. Cox has been named a lifetime Fellow of the Hambidge Center for the Arts and Sciences, where he has twice been an artist in residence. He has also received a South Carolina Independent Colleges and Universities Excellence in Teaching Award, has twice been named a Mobile Learning Innovator at Anderson University, where he has also served as Chair of the University Faculty, on the Dean’s Council, the Academic Council, the Internal Planning Group, and in many other capacities.
